Fort Irwin is home of the National Training Center, a major training area for the United States military in the Mojave Desert. Fort Irwin encompasses 1,200
square miles of training area, and is the size of the state of Rhode Island.
Fort Irwin is located just over an hour from Interstate 15/Stoddard Wells Rd, approximately 37 miles Northeast of Barstow. The 31 mile stretch from Fort Irwin Rd to the Fort Irwin Visitor Information Center is a scenic drive through the desert. You'll come across the Fort Irwin National Training Center Welcome sign and Painted Rocks.
